Karuththamma Rajashree sheds 20 kgs to play Atharvaa’s mother

Actress Rajashree of Karuththamma fame is making a comeback in Kollywood by playing Atharvaa’s mother in the latter’s Chandi Veeran which is directed by A. Sarkunam, whose 2011 film Vaagao Sooda Vaa wont he national award for ‘best feature film’ in Tamil. Film-maker Bala is the producer Chandi Veeran.

Rajashree hasn’t been able to make much of an impact as a heroine after Bharathiraaja’s Karuththamma and shocked her fans and supporters by choosing to play Suriya’s mother in Bala’s Nandha more than a decade back when she was still in the reckoning to play the heroine.

She got married 2009, divorced her first husband and got married again in 2010 to Bujankar Rao.

She was spottedin many television serials and couldn’t get any major offer to star in a film. With many films to her credit in Tamil, the actress is making a comeback after a long hiatus by essaying Atharvaa’s mother in Sarkunam’s Chandi Veeran which pits Anandhi of Kayal fame opposite Atharvaa.

Queried about her hiatus, Rajashree says: “I couldn’t come back to films immediately after my marriage as many leading heroines had suddenly started taking up mother’s roles.

As advised by a few directors to look ‘younger’ even for mother’s characters, I have shed as many as 20 kgs thanks to exercises and a planned diet. I shall continue to star in Tamil films from now onwards!”
