Sukanya looks for offers to turn music director

Sukanya

Sukanya, the actress who dominated Kollywood in the nineties, is said to be pursuing a new career in Kollywood. Sources close to the 45-year old actress say that she might soon make her debut in Tamil as a music director.

Not many are aware that Sukanya is an accomplished singer, music composer and Bharatnatyam danseuse besides her well-known acting skills. The actress, who has starred in all the four South Indian language films, was introduced in Kollywood in the lead role in Bharathiraaja’s Pudhu Nellu Pudhu Naathu in 1991.

She hardly looked back and starred opposite the likes of Vijayakanth, Kamal Haasan, Sathyaraj, Prabhu and all the frontline heroes except superstar Rajinikanth.

Chinna Gounder, Mahanadhi and Indian are just a few samples of what Sukanya is made of. She hasn’t been active in films since 2001 though she has had some releases in the past decade.

Last spotted in last year’s thriller Ennamo Nadakkudhu, Sukanya is said to have spread the word around the Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam film industries that she is ready to compose music for films.

A few months back, she released a music album which met with reasonably encouraging response. “I trained hard in music-composing skills and only after I realized that I had acquired what it takes to become a music director that I have started looking for offers to score music in films.

I want to make my debut (as music director) with a Tamil film and in a popular director’s film,” says Sukanya.
