Rajini-Shankar’s new film announcement on May

Kollywood circles are abuzz with excitement that an announcement is likely to be made on 15th May about superstar Rajinikanth’s next film which is most likely to be directed by Shankar, the director who combined with Rajini twice in the past to make colossal hits such as Sivaji: The Boss and Enthiran: The Robot.

Almost all sources are confirming the rumours but are keeping off the record. No Rajini film is confirmed till Rajini, the ‘man of the masses’ himself makes a statement on it. It is also informed that the budget of the film would easily cross Rs.250 crores, making it the most expensive Tamil film to have ever been made.

Lyca Mobiles, producer of Vijay’s Kaththi, is said to have offered to produce the mega-budget film which is likely to be made trilingual simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi given the clout the superstar wields across the country. Even the pre-production work is said to have commenced.

However, nobody is forthcoming to confirm whether the film would be a sequel to Enthiran: The Robot or have a new script set in a social backdrop like Sivaji: The Boss. The Enthiran sequel is likely to take at least two years in the making, it is informed and as such, Rajini and his millions of fans may not like to wait that long for his next film to release.

It is also said that Rajini would play dual roles in the film. Now that Kamal Haasan has turned down the offer to play Rajini’s villain in the film, it appears that Shankar would approach Vikram who is now holidaying abroad. A formal announcement about the film is expected to be made on 15th May.
